Research Profile

   Liu Naian, male, received his Ph.D. in Engineering Thermophysics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2000. Liu currently serves as Research Professor and Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Fire Safety Science, Member of Editorial Board of Journal of Combustion Science and Technology, Member of the Anti-Forest Fire Committee of the Chinese Society of Forestry, Member of the Forest Fire Prevention Committee of the China Fire Protection Association, Member of the International Combustion Institute, Member of the International Association for Fire Safety Science, etc. Prof. Liu is the member of International FORUM of Fire Research Directors. Prof. Liu also serves on the International Symposium on Fire Safety Science. Prof. Liu worked as a visiting scholar at the University of Tokyo, Japan and at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China.
   In recent years, Prof. Liu has presided over one project supported by the National Basic Research Program of China (also known as the “973” Program), four projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, two subprojects supported by the Key Technologies R&D Program of China During the 10th Five-year Plan Period, two subprojects supported by the National Science & Technology Pillar Program in the Eleventh Five-year Plan Period, one major project supported by the National Science & Technology Pillar Program in the Twelfth Five-year Plan Period, as well as one key project supported by the Special Funds for Public Sector Forest Research. Moreover, Prof. Liu has participated in many research projects supported by the State Key Program of National Natural Science of China in his capacity as a key researcher. Prof. Liu was supported by the Science and Technological Fund of Anhui Province for Outstanding Youth in 2001 and 2004. Prof. Liu entered the list of recipients supported by the “New Century Talents Supporting Program” of the Ministry of Education in 2005. Besides, Prof. Liu was also supported by the 11th Fok Ying-Tong Education Foundation for Young Teachers in the Higher Education Institutions of China.
   Up to now, Prof. Liu has authored over 70 research papers of which 32 were indexed by SCI and 23 by EI all in first-author capacity, including seven published in h-factor top journals and two cooperative books. Prizes and honors that Prof. Liu has gained include: the first prize of the 4th Anhui Provincial Excellent Academic Papers Award in Natural Science in 2003, the first prize of the Excellent Academic Papers Award of the Forest Fire Prevention Committee of the China Fire Protection Association (2002-2003), the first prize of the Excellent Academic Papers Award of the First China Forestry Science Conference in 2005, the second prize of the Second Liang Xi Forestry Science and Technology Award in 2007 (the highest award in the field of forestry science in China), the First Lu Jia-Xi Young Talent Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2008, the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2010, etc. Besides, Prof. Liu was also nominated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences for the first prize of the 2008 National Natural Science Award.
