Research Profile

 Chen Zonghai, male, born in December 1963, a native of Tongcheng County, Anhui Province, is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Department of Automation, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Prof. Chen is also a recipient of special allowances from the State Council. Chen obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Management & Systems Science of USTC in 1988, and his master’s degree in Control Theory and Control Engineering from USTC in 1991. After completing his postgraduate studies in 1991, Chen joined the faculty of USTC, dedicating himself to research and teaching in the field of control science and engineering. Prof. Chen’s main research area covers modeling and control of complex systems, intelligent science and technology, quantum control theory, etc. Prof. Chen currently serves as Director of the Chinese Association of Automation, Executive Director of the Chinese Association of System Simulation, Director of the System Simulation Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Simulation Application of the China Computer Users Association, etc. So far, Prof. Chen has undertaken a number of research projects, including projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, projects supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (namely, the “863” Program), projects supported by the key laboratory foundations of ministries and commissions, the “985” construction projects, the provincial and municipal science and technology projects, as well as some key scientific and technological projects funded by large and medium-sized enterprises. Prof. Chen has harvested over 10 science and technology progress awards at provincial and ministerial levels yet. Besides, Prof. Chen has authored more than 290 research papers and three academic monographs. In 2000, Prof. Chen was a recipient of the Yingke Outstanding Young Scholar Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
