Research Profile

Su Ji-hu, professor and Ph.D. supervisor at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Su received his doctoral degree from the Shanghai Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2003. From October 2003 to December 2009, Su engaged himself in the post-doctoral study and research first at Lund University (Sweden), and then at Uppsala University (Sweden), and finally at Max Planck Institute for Bioinorganic Chemistry (Germany). In January 2010, he was awarded as a specially appointed professor in the Department of Modern Physics at USTC.
Su currently dedicates himself to the research of quantum physics and its cross-disciplinary studies involving disciplines of chemistry, biology, new materials for the energy conservation, and other related areas. Upon these studies, the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy is the major technique which elucidates the geometric and electronic structure by directly tracing the unpaired electron(s). Su studies the water splitting in the oxygenic photosynthesis in the green plants which sustains the biologic cycle in the earth. Su also investigates the electronic structure of new materials and the quantum oscillation by EPR to manipulate the interaction between unpaired electrons and magnetic nuclei.
Up to now, Professor Su has published dozens of papers, and some of them in high-level academic journals such as ACS and PRL.
