Research Profile

    Zhou Xianyi, Vice President of USTC , is doctoral supervisor and professor of physics. 
    Born in December,1957 and a native of Feixi, Anhui Province,  Prof.Zhou was admitted to the Department of Physics, USTC, in March 1978 and received his Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree in 1989. In 1984, He joined the faculty at USTC and worked as assistant professor, then associate professor, and then professor and doctoral supervisor. From 1994 to 1996, he conducted collaborative research as a Humboldt scholar at the Munich University of Federal Armed Forces in Germany. Since 1998, he has assumed posts of Vice Chair and then Chair of the Department of Modern Physics, Associate Dean of the School of Science, Director of the Human Resources Department, Assistant President of USTC, and Vice President of USTC.
     Prof. Zhou has long been focused on the teaching and research on solid state physics and quantum physics. He has undertaken more than a dozen of research projects supported, among others, by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Special Foundation of President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has published over 100 academic papers in both domestic and international journals. Prizes and honors that Professor Zhou has received include one third prize of the CAS Natural Science Award in 1991, one second prize of the Anhui Provincial Natural Science Award in 2007, and one grand prize of the Anhui Provincial Teaching Achievement Award in 2005. Since October 1993, Professor Zhou has been enjoying the State Council special allowance.
Zhou’s academic service includes Director of Chinese Physical Society and Director-General of the Anhui Provincial Physics Association.
