Research Profile

    Yu Changxuan, professor at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). After graduation from the Department of Modern Physics at USTC in 1965, Yu joined the faculty and has been working at USTC since. In June 1992, Prof. Yu was promoted to full professor and in 1993, he became a doctoral supervisor in plasma physics. Previously, he served as Dean of the Department of Modern Physics, USTC, member of the Academic Degree Committee of USTC, member of the National Expert Committee on magnetic confinement fusion, member of executive committee of the Nuclear Fusion and Plasma Physics Association of China, member of the expert panel for the subject of fusion - fission hybrid reactors under the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (namely, the “863” Program), member of and consultant to the expert panel for the subject of laser fusion experiments and diagnostics under the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (namely, the “863” Program), member of the panel review committee of the department of mathematical and physical sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and member of the Academic Committee of the National Key Laboratory of High-Temperature and High-Density Plasmas. In 2007, Professor Yu was elected as academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Professor Yu currently is Professor of the Department of Modern Physics at USTC, member of the Academic Degree Committee and the Academic Research Committee of USTC, Director of the Academic Committee of the CAS Institute of Plasma Physics, Deputy Director of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the Experimental Advanced Super-conducting Tokamak (EAST) project, and member of editorial committees of journals: Science in China Series G (Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy), Chinese Physics Letters, Plasma Science and Technology, and Physics. 
     Prof. Yu has long been dedicated to experimental researches on plasma physics. He has presided over and completed a number of research projects or subprojects such as the subproject of the nonlinear science project supported by the National “Climbing” Program of China, the subproject of the Fusion-Fission Hybrid Reactor project supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (namely, the “863” Program), the subproject of the Laser Fusion Experiment and Diagnostics Project supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (namely, the “863” Program), and the key program project supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In cooperation with others, Prof. Yu has made a number of seminal research results in the fields of the turbulence and anomalous transport of magnetically confined plasmas, nonlinear dynamics of laboratory plasmas, and plasma diagnostics. He has published more than 100 refereed papers in scholarly journals. A monograph titled High Temperature Plasma Diagnostics co-authored with Prof. Xiang Zhilin has also been published. Prizes and honors he has received include one second prize of the CAS Natural Science Award, one second prize of the CAS Scientific and Technological Achievements Award, two third prizes of the CAS Science and Technology Progress Award, as well as one second prize of the Military Science and Technology Progress Award of the General Armament Department of PLA.. Prof. Yu has also been a recipient of the award of National Outstanding Teacher as well as relevant medals by the State Education Commission and the Ministry of Personnel.
