Research Profile

Lu Xiyun, male, born in 1963, currently works as a professor and doctoral supervisor at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), while doubling as Executive Dean of the School of Engineering Science of USTC. Lu obtained his Ph.D. in fluid mechanics from USTC and has extensive research experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and relevant research fields. Prof. Lu has published over 150 referred research papers in academic journals both at home and abroad. His research interests include numerical methods in computational fluid dynamics, turbulent flows simulation by large eddy simulation (LES) and direct numerical simulation (DNS), unsteady separation and vortex control, bio-mechanics (including external bio-mechanics: fish swimming, bird and insect flying, bio-mimics; internal bio-mechanics: blood in artery, microcirculation, muscle, and so on), micro-scale fluid mechanics and heat transfer in MEMS, and multiphase fluid mechanics in microgravity environment.
     Dr. Lu Xiyun is a Distinguished Professor under the “Cheung Kong Scholars Program” by the Ministry of Education. Lu has won a number of national awards including the one from the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China, the one from the “Hundred Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the one from the Trans-Century Training Program Foundation for the Talents of the Ministry of Education, the one from the State-level New Century Talents Supporting Program by seven ministries and commissions directly under the state council, etc. Besides, Prof. Lu is also named Group Leader of the Program for Cheung Kong Scholar and Innovative Research Team in University from the Ministry of Education.
     In recent years, Prof. Lu has successively presided over or participated in a dozen of research projects including project(s) supported by the Major Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, project(s) supported by the State Key Program of National Natural Science of China, subproject(s) supported by the National Basic Research Program of China (also known as the “973” Program), project(s) supported by the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China, project(s) supported by the Joint Research Fund for Overseas Chinese Scientists of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, project(s) supported  by Funds of the Chinese  Academy of Sciences for Key Topics in Innovation Engineering, project(s) supported by the External Cooperation Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, project(s) supported by a grant from the “Hundred Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as project(s) supported by a grant from the Trans-Century Training Program Foundation for the Talents of the Ministry of Education.
Other academic experiences Prof. Lu has had include appointments as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Tokyo (1993.12.~1994.7.), Post-Doctoral Researcher at University of Houston (1994.10.~1995.10.), Visiting Scholar at the University of Tennessee Space Institute (1995.11.~1996.11.), Senior Visiting Researcher at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (1996.12.~1998.2. and 1998.7.~1998.9.), Visiting Professor at the Pennsylvania State University (1999.7.~1999.9., 2000.1.~2000.7. and 2001.7.~2001.8.), and Visiting Professor at the Tohoku University (2002.9.).
Currently, Prof. Lu is an editorial board member of Journal of Hydrodynamics, Chinese Journal of Computational Mechanics, etc. and has acted as referee for several journals. Moreover, Prof. Lu is a Fellowship-Member of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (CSTAM) and the Chinese Society of Aerodynamics (CSA).
