Research Profile

    Ye Bangjiao,professor and doctoral supervisor at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He graduated from USTC with a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree in 1993 and then joined the faculty. He currently assumes the posts of Vice President and Party Secretary of the School of Physical Sciences, USTC. Other posts that Professor Ye undertakes include: director of the Chinese Nuclear Society, executive director of the Chinese Nuclear Physics Society, executive deputy director-general of the Anhui Provincial Nuclear Society, and editorial members of Nuclear Physics Review, College Physics, and Modern Physics.
     From 1995 to 1996, Prof. Ye was a visiting fellow at the Atomic Energy Research Institute of Japan. From 1999 to 2000, he served as visiting professor at Tokyo University. Professor Ye has long been engaged in the instruction of undergraduate physics. He is currently an executive director of China Electromagnetics Education Association. In 2006, he was named Distinguished Teacher of USTC, and since 2007, he has been enjoying the State Council special allowance. In 2008, he was elected as Chair Professor of USTC. Besides, he has won the Grand Prize of the Teaching Achievement Award in Anhui Province in 2008.
     Prof. Ye has long been focused on the research of nuclear physics and the applications of nuclear technology, involving particle physics, neutron physics, detection technology, positron physics and other fields. He has presided over or participated in many research projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, including key projects under the NSFC. In the field of nuclear physics, he has set up a set of multi-telescope systems used for measurements of double differential cross sections  of(n, x) nuclear reactions, by which a number of neutron nuclear data of fusion reactor structural materials have been measured. His research results have all been included or adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and have won the second prize in Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (first author). With regard to the research on neutron sputtering, he was the first to put forward the concept of reduced sputtering yields in the world, and discovered through initial experiment the systemic laws guiding the fast neutron sputtering of (n, 2n), (n, p), (n, a) and (n, np) nuclear reactions. In respect of the field of positron physics, professor Ye has set up the slow positron spectroscopy, the pulsed slow positron spectroscopy, the digital dual Doppler modulated spectrometer, and the digital positron lifetime spectrometer, which have been used to study the microstructures of materials. He has had a total of over 80 papers published so far in both domestically and internationally well-known journals.
