Fengzhong Dong (Ph.D, MIEEE, MSPIE), male, professor, was born in 1965. His major interests are currently focused on fibre sensing, novel optoelectronic devices and high sensitive spectroscopy for applications in industrial process control, energy and environmental protection.
Dr. Dong graduated from Nankai University in 1986. He received his MSc and Ph.D from Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1989 and 1992 respectively. After that he worked as a post-doctor in the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences on novel polymer materials and their applications in ultrafast optical switch. He then joined the Foundation for Research and Technology of Hellas (FORTH), Crete, Greece, as a visiting scientist in June 1994. From Dec. 1996 he had been working at the Centre for Microsystems and Photonics, Dept. of EEE, University of Strathclyde as a senior research fellow, where he had worked in a number of big EU, DTI and EPSRC projects in the fields of optical fibre sensing, fibre laser, optoelectronic devices and smart structure monitoring. In 2002 he was introduced as an outstanding person and selected by the “Hundred of Talents Program” of the CAS working on detection of atmosphere trace gases employing tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy. Up to now he has taken part in a number of national 863,key sientific research and equipment development, national science and technology supported program, NSFC and industrial supported projects either as the project leader or as a major team-member. He has awarded nearly 20 invention patents over the last few years. He has published over 150 journal and refereed conference papers, three internation book chapters.
