Born in 1963 in Anhui Province, Ye studied at the Department of Mathematics of USTC from 1979 to 1985, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and Mater’s degree. In 1986, he went to the former Soviet Union to study at the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of Moscow State University and received his Ph.D. degree in 1991. From 1991 to 1993, He undertook his postdoctoral study and research at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Italy. In 1993 Ye joined the faculty of USTC and since 1995, he has assumed his professorship at USTC. Prof. Ye worked as Associate Dean of the School of Science in 1997 and as Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Vice Chairman of the Department of Mathematics in 1998. In 2001, he served as Dean of the Department of Mathematics. In 2003 he was appointed as Executive Dean of the School of Science. Since May 2007, Prof. Ye has assumed the post of Vice President of USTC.
Prof. Ye has long been dedicating himself to the research of dynamical systems in basic mathematics as well as related ergodic theory and the continuum theory. He has published over 60 research papers in high-level international mathematics journals, which makes himself an internationally influential scholar in his field. He has been dedicated to undergraduate instruction and postgraduate cultivation, and two of his PhD students earned National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award and some earned the first Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the CAS Presidential Scholarship (Special Award) and the CAS Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award. He himself has won the CAS Outstanding Supervisor Award in 2007.
