Research Profile

     Chen Xiangjun, born in May 1966, is a native of Wencheng County, Zhejiang Province. In 1989, Chen received his Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). In 1995, Chen received his doctoral degree in Atomic and Molecular Physics from USTC. He is now a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Department of Modern Physics, the Principal Investigator of Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at Microscale, and a member of the Academic Degree Committee for Physics and Astronomy of USTC. In 2004, he entered the first batch of recipients supported by the “New Century Excellent Talents Program” of the Ministry of Education. Chen has been a visiting scholar at the Department of Physics, University of Western Australia, and has been a Visiting Associate Professor at the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University, Japan. 
His main research interests include electron impact spectroscopy and atomic identification on solid surfaces. His research involves experimental and theoretical studies over the structure and dynamics of the collision between electron and gas-phase atomic and molecular particles, the high-resolution molecular orbital imaging, and the scanning probe microscopy and electron spectroscopy of solid surfaces. Chen has published more than 100 peer-reviewed research papers in journals such as Phys. Rev. Lett., Phys. Rev. A, J. Chem. Phys., Rev. Sci. Instrum., etc. and has been invited many times as a speaker in academic conferences including ICPEAC, the most important one of the field. He has previously won the third prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of the Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. Up to now, he has undertaken or presided over a number of research projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Basic Research Program of China, and the Knowledge Innovation Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences respectively. Other academic jobs or posts that Chen assumes include: member of the General Committee for the International Conference on the Physics of Photonic, Electronic and Atomic Collisions (ICPEAC) (2005-2007), member of the National Committee of Atomic and Molecular Physics (2009 - Present), Associate Editor of Journal of Atomic and Molecular Sciences, etc. Chen is also the instructor of the courses of Atomic Physics, and Advanced Atomic and Molecular Physics.
